Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) refers to a wide category of analysis techniques that can be carried out on a component to check for surface or internal discontinuities. These inspections determine whether a component complies with the given industry acceptance standards, leaving it undamaged and able to be used for its intended purpose. Our team at S.T & W Inspections have been working together seamlessly for more than ten years, maintaining positive relationships with clients and using multiple methods of Non-Destructive Weld Testing to ensure their components’ compliance and safety. For our high-quality services, call us on 01795 432 634.
Non-destructive testing of
welded joints: Our methods
Our expertise allows us to provide multiple methods of NDT. For any weld or component, we can offer and identify the Non-Destructive Testing services you need.
Ultrasonic Inspection
Ultrasonic Inspections utilise ultrasonic sound waves at varying frequencies to identify internal inconsistencies in the weld or component. Our team have the skills to carry out this test accurately, using our vast inspection experience across sectors to assess both in-service and new welds.
Visual
Inspection
Visual Inspections are conducted using an expert eye to identify any surface discontinuities. This technique should be carried out prior to any NDT, ensuring correct dimensions and other parameters before further testing can take place. It can also be carried out as a standalone inspection where no NDT is required.
Magnetic Particle Inspection
Magnetic Particle Inspection uses an electromagnet to manipulate a magnetic field over the component. This allows iron filings in a solution to align to any surface discontinuities. Our technicians will assess these to the relevant acceptance standard and provide you with the results in quick and easy to understand inspection report.
Liquid Penetrant Testing
Liquid Penetrant Testing uses the application of a liquid penetrant or dye to the component’s surface. Once developed, the surface is inspected and any remaining traces of the dye or liquid highlight a discontinuity on the surface of the weld. This method can be used in a variety of settings and on different materials.
District Heating NDT
The pipelines installed in the UK’s heating networks require NDT to ensure they comply with industry standards. Our specialist District Heating NDT technique allows thin wall pipelines to be tested efficiently, safely, and in a manner that can be reliably repeated.
Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing
Phased Array is similar to Ultrasonic Testing, but the transducer utilises a wider range of beam angles to produce a clear, detailed internal picture of the weld. This image can be provided as a permanent record. This technique is likely to find defects within thinner materials that traditional Ultrasonic Testing will fail to see.
Positive Material Identification
Positive Material Identification is used for material analysis to determine the exact composition of a component. With onsite and offsite options available, the technique used can be tailored to your requirements. PMI can determine whether a material conforms to the right specification.

We have been providing clients with Non-Destructive Weld Testing for more than a decade, and they are consistently impressed by our standard of the work, flexibility, and our quick response times. Take a look at our past projects to get an insight into our services.
Non-destructive testing welding: RWC
Within our Non-Destructive Testing company, we have highly trained Responsible Welding Co-ordinators (RWCs). Our RWCs meet with our clients on a regular basis to ensure that your welding activities are conducted according to the specific standards that are required. They can consult on new weld procedures, welder qualifications, NDT volumes, and aid in inspection programmes for bespoke projects or general factory production. You can rely on our expertise to help you navigate the complexities of the relevant British Standards you must comply with for your industry approval.
Welder qualifications
At S.T & W Inspections, we can qualify welders and weld procedures, following the relevant industry acceptance standards. We can help create preliminary weld procedures if needed and can sign off welder qualifications to enable continuity of certification.
